Act Four.
The autumn days swung soft around me, like cotton on my
skin. But as the embers of the summer lost their breath
and disappeared, my heart went cold, and only hollow
rhythms resounded from within.

Dam conspiring admirals. That was pretty wild.

Had you figured it out already, dude?
One more to go. The next episode is the season finale.

That was odd...I was referring to the "consoles" thing - then it looks like old posts reappeared or something. I dunno.
Interesting Act IV...I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with Nogura and the armada. |

Jeremy, I know I'm way behind on catching up with your work. But I want to thank you again.
I'm only a couple of "minutes" into Act I of 1.12, and you've successfully incorporated something I considered very necessary when Ira Stephen Behr and/or Michael Piller okayed the idea of Section 31 in DS9. Whether the people responsible for Gary MItchell's just-revealed Manchurian condition consider themselves "true patriots" for the Federation or some other group, I am very happy to see this development. There are still only a few moments here and there in your writing where dialog could be workshopped to sound more genuine (as with McCoy's southern-gentleman banter with Kirk's mom), but... damn, you're good.
My compliments. Thank you for acknowledging one of several necessary unpleasant truths about governments run by frightened old men, within a storytelling framework.
May I ask a favor? Your references throughout give acronyms for episode titles, which is great for people who either have a checklist handy, or have memorized your canon. Might you consider adding episode numbers to each reference, for people like me?

First, I want to be the umpteenth person to welcome you to our friendly confines. Work/life has relegated me to more of a lurker than active poster here, but I also wanted to echo my friends' sentiments of general welcome. Oh, and you're beer's empty... care for a Fuller's IPA?
Anyway, to your request that Ro use episode numbers... actually, he's been doing that all along... for example, the 1.13 for Penitence represents season one, episode 13.

THAT is the Exploration that awaits you: not mapping stars or studying nebulae, but charting the unknown possibilities of Existence.

Thank you very much, indeed. I still have "work" to do over at a couple of other Trek forums I infest, but I'm damned if I'll miss out on what this project is doing.

Ooh. Never had one of their IPAs. The local Wall Street suits-are-picking-up-the-bill dive only taps their London Pride and Porter.

Yes and no. Throughout his plot summaries, he references previous episodes only by acronym. Sorry, but these stories aren't the original 79, and I'm a long way from being eidetic at this point.

Sorry about the acronyms. The plot summaries are really just blue-prints. They're not really intended for mass consumption (the scripts are).
Speaking of the scripts, they've got to start coming out faster, so I'm going to lose the security blanket of a writing parter and just do them entirely solo. It's not the fault of Ben, Joe or Wally; I just cant expect people to do these things as quickly as I want because, well...they have lives (and it's not like I'm paying them).

Militarism and the slow gradual slide towards despotism has been something that's been on my mind since Fall 2001. The last seven years have been a very frightening time to be alive...but, creatively, very inspiring though.
As for Bones' southern gentleman banter, bare in mind that is only the blue-print for what is going to be in the script. What you read in these summaries are bare-bones approximations. However, when the good doctor speaks that way, it's supposed to sound very put-on, like he often did on the old show. One of those occasions is when he said, "Madame, I'm a doctor. If I peek, it's in the line of duty." He said that very tongue-in-cheek. That's the idea here as well.

My turning point was the news of the Watergate burglary in 1975, followed by the cascade of revelations about the excesses of that particular neo-con government, which had several of the same true believers working ops. The guy at the top may not have been a functional imbecile, but he presided over no less an amount of misguided ambition, some of which got tagged for its arrogance.
DS9's descent into that dismal behavior was like fresh air to me. At last, Trek was picking up the rock so we could see the worms underneath. |
