The autumn days swung soft around me, like cotton on my
skin. But as the embers of the summer lost their breath
and disappeared, my heart went cold, and only hollow
rhythms resounded from within.

Too subtle, Jeremy. No one will get the implications of it. |

LMAO!
Thanx, Moe. I needed to laugh.
Actually, when Tup sent it to me, I got a very uncomfortable feeling. It's quite a creepy image.

That's a good question. Have any ideas?

Let's say the stars represent the 7 continentsv(Asia, Africa, Antartica, South America, North America, Europe and Oceania). As for the stripes, there's nine, I thought it could be the commendments (they dropped one...)
Or I can simply modify the symbol, as this was done as a test.

9 stripes could represent how the people of earth are 9 times straighter than the next leading planet...

Or 9 times more likely to not know why they have 9 stripes on their emblem...

The specific number of items in the design is a legitimate consideration. Anyone in the mirror-administration who commissioned this might hear from a bunch of cabinet people about it, at least some of whom would be semi-literate enough to comment upon symbology. A logo for the New World Order would incorporate its entire domain, while emphasizing jingoism at home. No detail is insignificant in this regard.

Well, is was a prototype I did, inspired by Jer's vision of the logo (I have another version with no american flag, and the oceans were crimson colored, as you can see here.
But actually, even though a few details could be tempered with, to add to the symbolism, I think I like the egocentric (or nationalisticocentric, or ideologicocentric) idea behind it. It shows the origins of the empire, and its heart. Like many representations of Earth as seen in the US, it focuses on the western hemisphere. I'm sure some of you remember some of the maps you'd see in high school, where the US looked like it actually was an island surrounded by a sea of grey, instead of sharing land borders with two other countries.
After all, symbols evolved and their meanings changed through history, look at old Roman symbols, still around, or the deformation the Nazis did of the swastika...
And an American-based empire, like the Roman one, wouldn't let go of its most cherished symbols because it expanded beyond its borders!

Personally, guys, I dont think anything further needs to be really extrapolated upon.
The US, even today, has garrisoned the world...yet we still only have 50 stars for 50 'states'; this, despite the fact that countries like the Philippines, Okinawa, Iraq and numerous other nations that I'm too lazy to list are essentially American 'colonies' in everything but name anyway. I highly doubt they'll ever be another 'state' (as Americans think of one) ever again. We've grown to nativist for that. Puerto Rico couldn't even get in, especially not in this climate of racism and xenophobia.
As to the number of stars or stripes visible in the symbol, it doesn't have to mean that there are only 7 stars or nine stripes or whatever. It just means the earth is draped in the American flag, and some parts aren't visible.

Glad you agree. I never really had the intention of adding extra symbolism to the stars and stripes as it meant enough this way and I didn't think it was that important...The whole thing says enough.
Guess I got defensive on my "creation"

Just trying to bring up the issues of detail which inevitably occur in real life, as they do within current national symbols. Didn't mean to intrude upon a done deal. |

Well, I think the main point remains the story-telling value of said symbolism.
It has to ring an immediate bell with the "viewer". It is indeed a creepy image that no one can dismiss.

I understand that. I happen to feel that undiluted American flag elements might be a bit dated for a 23rd century symbol. You're the designer. I just kibitz. |

This is why I laugh in a nervous way whenever somebody denies that the USA's an Empire. People forget that all the great European empires were based around "Protecting our interests" and trade, the vast amounts of territorry the major powers aquired were almost an unintentional by-product of that ethos.
