There's one show that was easily forgoten from my childhood but that Pilot was damn funny. Electra Woman trurns into a drunk whore and bangs the college football team, gee I wonder why it wasn't picked up. |

I'd recommend it, more to see the bullshit that is commonly said on American "News Shows" as regards to your health care system.

Finally saw Transformers today. Just me and the boy, the wife took my daughter to Ratat-whatever at the same time.
About $30 bucks for all 4 tickets, last matinée showing. No popcorn, no soda. To be honest, I hate the theater racket, but I do like movies, so I try to make it as painless as possible. I don't need an afternoon snack, I certainly am not going to put a movie theater hotdog in my body (no offense, but, ewwwww).
It was ok. I hate the way MB shoots his scenes with that ultra closeup, ultra slow mo. I had a hard time telling what was going on at one point. Megatron looked cool, so did Prime, I love him taking Barricade's head off on the interstate.
I do have a question though...
Ok so the cube "all spark?" can create a transformer out of a piece of machinery built on earth. Why do they seem to be immediately evil? I mean, the autobots want it so they can rebuild their homeworld, I don't think they want to rebuild it and fill it full of bad guys. Why didn't they wake up and say "Hi how you doing, Im your soda machine, whats up?"

I'm just not that excited about what Moore is doing these days. Roger & Me was one of those great - us against they system rallies and was brilliant. However, his last few have left me a little cold because he's pushing too hard for a certain point of view and I think he's lost some of his objectivity.

I agree. More and more, Michael Moore just strikes me as the Ann Coulter of the left - only slightly less offensively insulting and blatantly psychotic. But just as fanatic.
As for "Transformers", it was serious dumb fun. I hadn't had that much fun all summer, and it was seriously starting to grate on me how disappointing 2007 was turning out. It's not a "great" film, but it's a balls-nasty m ovie.

Michael Moore just strikes me as the Ann Coulter of the left...
No offense, Ben, but I'm actually really disappointed to hear you espousing this.
That's a bullshit talking-point invented by right-wing pundits and conservative think-tanks, that is then eagerly parroted by so-called mainstream news sources (who do it because it allows them to present themselves as 'fair' to the movement-conservatives who obfuscate the national discourse on a daily basis). They wouldn't want to be accused of 'liberal bias', now would they? The MSM also misrepresents Moore because they are the gatekeepers of conventional wisdom and the protectors of the power-elite; it's their job to marginalize anyone that ever seriously questions "the system".
Basically, Moore is a threat to corporatism and the white male power structure, of which the MSM is just another subsidiary. That's the reason why Ann Coulter is a regular TV pundit that has her books underwritten by Washington think-tanks (and sold by publishing houses owned by the big five media conglomerates), while Michael Moore has to use his own money to make documentary films that the major networks and cable news channels never air, let alone discuss without having a right-wing person on to attack it.
This notion of equating Moore with Coulter has absolutely zero basis; it comes from the conditioning people have to make everything about 'balance'. There's this idea that if you're gonna criticize someone on the right, it means you must find someone on the left to criticize as well...just so, ya know, everything is 'fair'. So why not Michael Moore? He's fat. So the jokes will come easy, right? To hell with accuracy and facts. The problem, though, no matter how much people wish it were so, is that facts dont have sides. And the fact here is this: Moore isn't anything like Ann Coulter.
And ironically, right now, we're doing exactly what the obfuscators on the right want us to do: we're talking about Moore instead of the substance of SiCKO. Why address the message when you can just change the subject to the messenger, and thus avoid any meaningful discussion? In fact, this dichotomy goes directly to the root of why we can rarely get anything done in this country; we're too busy arguing about media narratives that either a) dont matter or 2) aren't true.

You cannot separate the two in this case. Although I hear that Moore gave himself a lot less on-screen time in Sicko than in previous films, the fact is that this, like all of his films, is not a completely unbiased look at the topic under discussion - all of the information presented is filtered through Moore's own, particular filters, point of view and opinions. As such, it is valid to discuss Moore in conjunction with the movie.
And this is often (although not always) the case with documentaries in which the filmmaker takes an active role. Look at "Super Size Me" for example. You cannot really take the overarching message of that film seriously because it is so hard to get past the fact that Morgan Spurlock is such a self-righteous douchebag.

I haven't seen 'Sicko", which is why I'm not commenting on it. I have, however, seen quite a bit of Michael Moore, and my opinion of him influences my interest in seeing his movies.

A quick word on Moore. Despite sharing his views, and appreciating his effectiveness (with already convinced people), I think there's something to be said about his methods, as he sometimes bend the truth or take easy shortcuts...There was signs in Bowling for Columbine, even more in Farenheit 9/11
But I think I'll still see Sicko...

I think his ideas are fine, but his zeal can turn me off, and the fudging of facts annoys me. But yes, there's a lot wrong with our healthcare system, and plenty wrong with the way our country deals with guns and the like so the THEMES he explores are great, I just can't always sign on to how he does it.

That is precisely the opposite reason why the First Amendment was written, and why it was the first one: the Press, as the Fourth Estate of government, is allowed the freedoms it has in order to keep a watchful eye on the other three 'official' branches of government. It was based on our Founding Fathers' fundamental distrust of those in power, and thus they mandated Free Speech and a Free Press.
This country needs a revolution, and widespread re-adoption of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
