Download here.
If you don't like Aretha...well, you suck.
The autumn days swung soft around me, like cotton on my
skin. But as the embers of the summer lost their breath
and disappeared, my heart went cold, and only hollow
rhythms resounded from within.

Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good" is also a freakin' awesome song...sort of Fiona Apple's "Criminal" meets soul and crash-lands into some fuzzy, cranky 70s recording equipment.
I guess we're the only soul/R&B/jazz fans around here...

Jer, if you haven't already, Check out Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" - I'm halfway through it, and it's one of the best albums I've heard in a while. Jazz, Soul, R&B, 50s Rock...it's all in there, with some crazy lyrics. She's hot, she can sing, and if her lyrics are at all based on life, she's a baaaaad girl...daddy like.
The poor girl and the Best Buy checkout had to have been confused - I bought Amy Winehouse, the new White Stripes, Buffy's "Once More With Feeling" (I still want that royal blue zoot suit) and the 20th Century Masters disk of the Velvet Underground. What a combination.

Sam, I keep hearing about Amy Winehouse, and I finally got to listen to her. Awesome. I've been downloading some stuff of her's from YouTube and converting only the audio into MP3s. It's turned into a very efficient way to collect the music I want.
BTW, Sam, you ever listen to Billy Holiday? I've sort of fascinated with her. She's a big influence on me as a vocalist. I've always wanted to do my own version of Gloomy Sunday. I'd do Strange Fruit (but Jeff Buckley already beat me to it...and I cant compete with him).

Her voice is what 'sorrow and heartache' sounds like...or something I cant quite explain.

Winehouse's "Rehab" seems to be the second single released from "Back to Black" - that or the radio stations around here just decided that they like it. She and Joss Stone may manage do do for jazz/Motown/Soul what Brian Setzer and the Cherry Poppin' Daddies did for swing...
(Honestly, I've never really understood the difference between jazz, Motown and Soul...they're all different shades of the same color to me. The same goes for rock n' roll, blues and country.)
I'm a musical weirdo...some of my favorite stuff is ancient. Frank Sinatra and Glenn Miller are two of my all-time faves, and I have an awesome CD of WWII patriotic/propaganda/swing music. You never know what I'm listening to - it could be Glenn Miller, it could be Bruce Springsteen, it could be REM, it could be the White Stripes, or it could be Beethoven. |

Ok... you have to email me and tell me how to do that. There's 1 or 2 songs that are impossible for me to find elsewhere, but the vids are up on youtube...

Go here, Dean. First download the FLV Player (the link is to the top right of the screen). Then copy & paste the URL of the YouTube video you want into the box. After that, set to 'YouTube' in the drop-down box to the left, then hit download.
At the bottom, a hyperlink will come up that says: ?? Download Link ??. Right click/Save Link as, then rename the file from 'get video' to the title of the video (or whatever you want to call it). Make sure you add .flv to the end of it otherwise it wont work (example: Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.flv).
After that, just use whatever file conversion program you have. I use Real Converter.

Super and Irreverter are two nice, freeware programs you can use to do file conversions as well.
