Because Iraq is in worse shape now than when he was in power.

I agree with the sentiment...I agree that that area will never be the same again (unless we get another dictator in power because all those people understand is either fear or tyranny, there is no such thing as equality)...but part of me was expecting something...maybe some type of fufillment that this sicko is gone...not to say that I'm losing sleep over his death or anything...I dunno...my grandfather talks about the Nuremberg trials and how each one of those officers death brought some type of...completion...to his life and the lives of his fellow officers and the American public...so why don't I feel the same??? |

The typical combination of western arrogance, superiority and ignornace. No, what drives the civil war in Iraq has nothing to do with what "those people" understand; it has to do with the same thing that drove the Irish catholics and prodestants to kill each other: their differeing intepretations of their shared religion.
And the legacy of western imperialism in the region is also another reason for the chaos. The nation state of Iraq exists as a result of foreign interference a century ago.
The autumn days swung soft around me, like cotton on my
skin. But as the embers of the summer lost their breath
and disappeared, my heart went cold, and only hollow
rhythms resounded from within.

What I mean by "those people" are the Arab nation in general. Through out history the Arab world has been ruled by dictators. From Hammurabi to Saladin himself, the classic golden rule scenario: "He who has the gold makes the rules".
Well now that no one is standing in the wealth financially or spiritually (as you pointed out with the different interpratations of Islam) everyone is vying to be the next "savior" of the Arabic world and it doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon.
The war was wrong. I admit that, part of me supported it only for the factor I wanted to see that sicko suffer at the hands of his own people. I got that...now I'm unfortunately left with the feeling of..."now what?"...
